Job DescriptionJob Summary:
This position will essentially be assisting with all aspects of the day-to-day operations in the Advanced Manufacturing Lab & Maker Space within the Engineering Department. The lab manager will also assist in engineering laboratory course functions and research projects.

Coordinates the day-to-day operations of Advanced Manufacturing Lab & Maker Space.
Coordinates and cultivates engineering external engagement for equipment and related program needs
Maintains work area and assigned laboratories in a safe, neat, and operating condition.
Maintains adequate supply stock and requisitions as needed supplies, tools, and materials. Takes periodic inventories of supplies, tools, and materials.
Responsible for teaching and training all faculty/staff, students, and guests in the safe operation of laboratory instruments and machine shop equipment. Manages access to instrumentation, equipment, and tools based on training & safety protocols.
Creation and maintenance of lab SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures), machine operation manuals, and safety documents for all processes and updated as appropriate
Support & perform the regular maintenance of machine shop equipment by ordering parts/consumables and making minor repairs as necessary.
Program and operate CNC equipment.
Performs and teaches techniques such as machining, drilling, grinding, cutting, welding, etc.
Assists faculty in designing & updating experiments & equipment as needed.
Maintain “student lab safety agreements” and training records for all engineering labs & tools/machines as required.
Some oversite of student workers assigned to their area.
Perform general safety inspections as necessary
Enters work orders as needed for maintenance requests
Performs any and all additional duties as assigned/requested.
Commitment to the mission statement, core values and goals of Alvernia University.
Bachelor of Science including hands-on work in engineering systems & experience in STEM laboratories.
Two or more years’ experience as a machinist, demonstrating knowledge of tools, equipment, methods, and practices of the machinist trade.
NIMS Level 1 (materials & safety, CNC Lathe/Mill) certification
Welding certification and experience
Experience with constructing, repairing, testing, and debugging electrical & mechanical equipment.
Ability to communicate technical information to nontechnical audiences.
Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Publisher.
Imperative to have strong organizational skills.
Attendance is required in order to perform the duties of this job.
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Prolonged periods of standing and working with various tools, machines, and instrumentation.
Must be able to lift 25 pounds at times.
A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.
