Job Summary:

Conducts tests & procedures. Sets up & operates equipment. Records observations & measurements & collects & compiles data in a research lab. Requires a practical understanding of a limited number of standard scientific techniques.

This technician will need to have an intensive math background. Experience with physiology is helpful, but not required. This is a computationally-focused position, and the technician will be tasked with the acquisition and analysis of from multiple projects, heading toward publication. The key responsibilities of this technician will be to set up physiology experiments, collect and analyze data, and to format the data into various figures for use in publications.

Please Note: This technician will need to get authorized to work with animals, as this programing will be used within the context of animal behavior. Testing of programs will necessarily involve mice.

Specific Responsibilities:

Follows pre-defined protocols, policies, procedure, regulations, Good Clinical and Good Laboratory Practices and conducts standard and repetitive experiments and completes basic trouble-shooting techniques.
Sets-up, operates and maintains standard lab equipment.
Using an entry level of skill, completes the following activities:
Tissue fixation/processing: embedding, preparation of blocks and sectioning, staining
Physiology experiment set up
Data collection and analysis
Formatting data for figures in publications
Records test results and may maintain databases.
Completes standard and routine clerical duties such as copying, filing, data entry, word processing, etc.
Maintains inventory of reagents, mice and lab supplies

Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

HS diploma or equivalent and some basic science courses are required.
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)

Excellent programming.
Command of basic programing programs
Interest and basic knowledge of sensory and systems neuroscience.
Preferred Qualifications:

BS or MS in Neurobiology or related field
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)

Skills in MATLAB and Python, modern data science techniques including machine learning, dimensionality reduction, and signal processing
