Working Title: Associate Director of Career Development Center


The School of Business at the University of California, Riverside is a nationally ranked and internationally recognized AACSB-accredited business school. With over 14,000 alumni all over the world, it is home to the largest undergraduate business program in the University of California system, as well as to the A. Gary Anderson Graduate School of Management (AGSM), which features MBA, Ph.D., Professional MBA, Master of Professional Accountancy (MPAc), and Master of Finance (MFin) programs.

AGSM's Career Development Center (CDC) is committed to assisting students and alumni achieve their career goals by providing career guidance using a variety of resources, activities, and partnerships. Under the leadership of the Director of CDC, the Associate Director of CDC is responsible for establishing and cultivating partnerships with corporate and industry partners, student, alumni, and faculty. Playing an external role, the Associate Director works closely with businesses and the UCR alumni community to seek out internship and employment opportunities, developing career-building tools and job market strategies for AGSM students enrolled in the various graduate degree programs.

The Associate Director is responsible for managing and maintaining relationships with corporate recruiters that engage with the CDC to recruit AGSM students. The Associate Director manages all aspects of on campus recruiting from advising individual companies on their best approach to campus, to developing corporate communications. This individual is responsible maintaining relationships with companies, as well as develop new relationships. Additionally, the Associate Director may be responsible for advising students on specific companies hiring strategies and practices, enabling them to be best prepared for potential employment. This role is also responsible for corporate recruiting data collection, interpretation, and dissemination.

The Associate Director works closely with the various program offices and student leaders. The short list candidates will be assessed by their qualifications during their campus interview including panel interview, one-on-ones, and presentation.


• Develops and oversees delivery of broad and complex career-focused programs and events that incorporate the needs of organization partners and constituents.
Primary responsibility for developing and maintaining relationships with local, regional, and national alumni/employers to identify and generate employment opportunities, internships, job shadowing and other professional development opportunities. Solicits and manages community/corporate relationships to facilitate student-centered career development and experiential learning opportunities; cultivates community/corporate relationships to secure job placement for graduating students.

• Establishes and cultivates relationships with corporations and other organizations related to career services for students and alumni to promote fundraising and enhance the organization's relationship with outside organizations.

Primarily responsible for leading efforts in collaboration with the plans and implements programs including corporate receptions, employer briefings, training and workshop series, and mentoring programs. Along with the Director, develop a public relations/outreach strategy to increase the visibility of AGSM students and alumni to employers. Attract national, international and local employers to recruit and place AGSM students in job opportunities. Work collaboratively with students, student clubs, and student government association on events, activities, and programs aimed at developing social and professional experiences that foster networking, alumni engagement, and interactive community experiences.

• Advises students regarding career development, graduation, and employment strategy. Develops new and enhances existing resources to connect students with experiences in and out of the classroom with their career aspirations. Maintains a high-level of knowledge of assigned employment markets through employer and alumni interviews and industry resources; reports trends and changes to leadership and relevant academic programs; and identifies internship opportunities.

• Researches, designs, and develops workshops and programs to meet the career need of students and alumni.
Establishes topic expertise to provide cutting-edge training for student achievement and success. Creates training modules to improve student career development. Plans, implements, and conducts outreach workshops, presentations, and programs aimed to educate and inform students, faculty, and staff about career programs and services. Directly works with students on strategic and tactical levels to develop career plans and to set realistic professional goals, utilizing "best-practices" available. Provides resume feedback, career assessment and counseling, job search strategy coaching, interview preparation, mock interviews, and salary negotiation advice. Coaches students and alumni on all areas of career development and career management including, but not limited to, resume writing, interviewing skills, job/internship search techniques and networking.

• Oversees career program technical systems, and uses thorough knowledge of career program and information systems to build applications and improve web sites and other supporting technologies.
Takes the lead in developing and maintaining current information and related databases for career advising and employment statistics, including salary information. Develop and expand the use of data collection strategies such as surveys, questionnaires, observations, and interviews. File annual reports with ranking organizations, such as US News. Oversee the tracking, analyzing, and reporting of internships and statistics on current students; provide reports on a quarterly basis, or as requested, by the various stakeholders. This includes managing the collection of employment data on all student fulltime jobs, tabulate results, prepare employment reports, and complete AGSM's response to various business school surveys related to the Graduate programs rankings.

• Presents sensitive and difficult information about the career program, including presentations to the media and the public.
Assist the Director in developing and implementing a comprehensive professional outreach program to employers and community organizations, enhancing recruiting both on and off campus. Support AGSM student recruitment efforts by presenting career development content at select events and programs designed to convert applicants to the various graduate programs (e.g. recruitment webinars, ABLE Program, select recruiting trips).

• Oversees delivery of broad and highly complex career-focused programs and events that incorporate the needs of organization partners/constituents.

Participate in the School's CDC Advisory Board with corporate members and internal staff and faculty; work collaboratively with students and student organizations on events, activities, and programs. Provide support and expertise as appropriate. Stay engaged with the CDC Student Advisory Council to assist with marketing events to students and assisting at events. Present at the Career Development Center orientation, a segment of the new student orientation to promote alignment of educational experiences and career management strategies. Organize school-wide career fair events for employers and students/alumni. Along with design and coordinate career seminars, academic summer camps and online educational workshops and programs.

• Develop and plan curricular seminars, career panels, company visits, coaching sessions, and career workshops to meet the informational and professional needs of all graduate students. Develop strategies to engage students in career development through diverse content delivery methods designed to reach all AGSM students

• Participate in the development of marketing plans and materials for Employer/Company outreach strategies. Conduct Employer Visits with CDC Director and others. Host Company information sessions and student interviews on Campus. Organize and lead student company tours and treks. Facilitate organize CareerTalks with employers and guests. Develop career fairs in conjunction with the UCR Career Center. Participate in trips to engage alumni, companies, and career fairs domestically and internationally. Utilities technology to track the success of employer outreach then leveraging that technology to analyze and interpret data on job/internship placement; effectively assess and evaluate needs, strengths, opportunities, market trends, associated with these efforts.

Minimum Requirements

Advanced degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
6 - 10 years of related experience.
Strong ability to design and modify computer applications to meet program needs, problem identification, presentation skills, verbal communication, written communication, and organization skills.
Advanced knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, counseling processes, career coaching techniques, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques.
Advanced knowledge of needs assessment theory, processes, and practice; workshop and program design.
Strong ability to work with people from diverse cultures.
Ability to work effectively with persons from culturally diverse backgrounds and to foster inclusive excellence in all facets of one's work;
Demonstrated leadership and decision-making capability; excellent ability to build collaborative and cooperative partnerships across many, varied constituents and stakeholders including students, faculty, staff, employers, alumni, and donors;
A clear passion for enhancing the student experience and advancing student learning; superior written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills;
Demonstrated knowledge and facility in applying current and emerging technology to enhance career center operations and services.
Demonstrated understanding of current issues, best practices, and emerging trends in higher education career services, outcomes assessment, employment trends, and job markets;
Demonstrated ability to carry out wide-ranging responsibilities in a complex, fast paced, results oriented, working environment, including program development, career advising, and relationship building with community and employers.
Exceptional interpersonal, writing, and oral communication skills, including presentation skills to communicate effectively with diverse audiences and enhance delivery of career development services to students and alumni.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree in student affairs, higher education administration, counseling, business, public administration or related discipline

Minimum of 6 years of progressive professional experience in the areas of career services, student affairs, corporate recruitment, business, or development
Advanced knowledge of UC programs, career services, employer, alumni, and faculty needs and expectations, recruiting and staffing methods, employment trends.
