Black Hills State University (BHSU) and Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) are seeking an exceptional science educator to support and expand existing education and outreach efforts associated with Sanford Underground Research Facility.

SURF’s Education and Outreach department leverages the facility’s fascinating science and engineering to deepen understanding and to inspire K-12 teachers and students, university students, and members of the general public.

DUTIES:
• Collaborate with K-12 teachers, university educators, scientists, and engineers in developing new programs and refining existing ones.
• Create and facilitate science professional development for K-12 teachers.
• Produce instructional materials that connect underground science to K-12 and higher education settings.
• Provide educational programs within K-12 and university classrooms throughout the region.
• Host student groups at the SURF facility.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required qualifications include at least three years of teaching experience within a STEM discipline at the K-12 or university level, a master’s degree in education, science, or related field, and evidence of exceptional communication and collaboration skills.

Desired attributes include experience with teacher professional development and curriculum development, team-oriented, innovative, and fun.

COMMENTS:
BHSU will serve as the employing institution for this position with primary office at SURF in Lead, South Dakota.
