Job Description

We are looking for a passionate, highly motivated, hardworking and experienced chemical biologist who can contribute and lead the research program of our laboratory, and thus will play a key role in the development of our laboratory drug discovery efforts. The candidate will conduct research in the development of peptidomimetic molecules targeting epigenetic molecular mechanisms linked to cancer development and progression; he/she will contribute to the synthesis of novel biologically active peptidomimetic molecules and to their biological characterization. He/She is expected to take a leadership role on these projects and to mentor both graduate and undergraduate students. We are looking for a passionate, highly motivated, hardworking and experienced individual who can contribute and grow our research program. See some recent publications of our lab at: https://www.brooklyn.cuny.edu/web/academics/faculty/faculty_profile.jsp?faculty=1155.

Preferred candidates will have a strong background in drug design and synthetic chemistry (experience in solid phase synthesis and peptide chemistry preferred). Given the interdisciplinary nature of our research, some basic knowledge of biochemistry and cell biology is highly desired. Experience in cancer research and epigenetics is a plus.

The candidates are anticipated to be creative thinker and doer working in a team culture, skilled in both verbal and written communication, data organization and presentation of scientific data, and preparing manuscripts for referred journal publications and patent inventions. This opportunity will support career growth (assistance to Conferences, mentoring, part of time spent at collaborating institutions in NYC) and will encompass participation in weekly group seminars, and potentially grant writing.

Qualifications: PhD completed at the time of application (postdoctoral experience desired)

Background in chemical biology strongly preferred. Strong bench execution and discipline is a must with extensive hands-on experience in synthetic chemistry, peptide chemistry, structural-activity relationship studies, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS), and other analytical techniques. Basic knowledge of biochemistry and cell and molecular biology are a plus. Proficiency in English and PhD finished at the time of applying for the job a must. Members of traditionally underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
