Through partnership and innovation, the Office of the Chancellor advances learner-centered, global, and lifelong experiential education at Northeastern University. The office partners with leaders across all colleges and campuses to:



Support innovation in teaching and learning
Bring best practices to scale
Maximize learner mobility across all campuses and globally
Expand our campuses and experiential network internationally


The Chancellor’s Office has three overarching priorities. Each supports Northeastern’s academic plan, Northeastern 2025, and vision for building the world’s first global university system.



Expanding our global network
Northeastern is a global research university with an expanding network of campuses. Each location enhances mobility through experience-powered learning, research, and global connections. Programs are aligned with industry needs, designed to prepare students for in-demand careers.



Innovation in lifelong learning
Today’s learners must be able to acquire knowledge anytime, anywhere, throughout their careers. Across Northeastern’s colleges and schools, and at every global campus, they pursue challenging work assignments on site and online while completing degree and pre-college programs, certificates, workshops, and corporate education programs co-designed with employers. Credits are modular and “stackable,” applicable toward degrees.

Excellence in the learner experience
Northeastern emphasizes quality in the student experience—in class, through experience-powered learning, and through research and creative expression. Designing the learner’s journey to hone the individual’s interests and strengths while building a sense of community and connection.

Responsibilities:

The Senior Vice Chancellor for Educational Innovation provides dynamic, visionary leadership in the development of innovative approaches and models designed to advance teaching and learning across all university programs and initiatives. The senior vice chancellor's functional portfolio and organization includes the university's Center for the Advancement of Teaching & Learning Through Research, University Honors Program, Undergraduate Research, Fellowships and Scholarships, Employer Engagement, Career Design, the Global Experiential Office, Peer Tutoring, and Pre-Health. Together with the existing functional unit leads, the senior vice chancellor provides thought leadership and guidance that expands and supports the full integration of experiential learning across the curriculum and co-curriculum to accelerate efforts to ensure that Northeastern’s programming remains differentiated and relevant.



The senior vice chancellor will seek and nurture new partnerships, both externally and internally, that will enhance new models of integration that creatively link high impact learning practices across the learner experience throughout their life and career. The senior vice chancellor will lead efforts to advance and diversify educational opportunities and offerings across the university, create new avenues for research in linking learning with outcomes that foster self-directed learning and 21st century skills, seek unique funding opportunities, and expand the Northeastern network and leadership role in experiential and evidence-based learning globally. The senior vice chancellor is a network leader partnering with university leaders, college deans, faculty and staff to lead the educational vision for the global university system which will profoundly impact opportunities for learners, employers and communities. The senior vice chancellor for Educational Innovation reports directly to the Chancellor and serves on the Chancellor’s Leadership Team as well as the Dean's Council and is expected to provide significant leadership and advocacy in the formation of key educational initiatives.



Specifically, the senior vice chancellor will:

Develop the overall philosophy, approach and strategies associated with educational innovation across the university.
Lead critical academic program areas to achieve overall institutional mission and goals as outlined in the University's strategic and academic plan.
Form alliances and networks designed to expand the university's experiential and innovation agenda.
Provide thought leadership and direction that is aspirational for current and potential future educational units within the portfolio associated with teaching and learning across the university.
Initiate partnerships focused on expanding research into the integration of learning outcomes with high impact practices across the student learning experience.
Seek opportunities that advance Northeastern University's leadership role in experiential and evidence-based learning globally.
Identify potential funding sources to support research and knowledge advancement in unique teaching and learning models.
Lead, mentor and guide staff within the unit.
Participate in strategic divisional planning, oversight, and evaluation.
Oversight of Center for the Advancement of Teaching & Learning through Research, University Honors, Undergraduate Research, Employer Engagement, Career Design, the Global Experiential Office, Peer Tutoring, and Pre-Health.


Network Leadership & Strategy

The senior vice chancellor is a network leader partnering with university leadership, college deans, faculty and staff to lead the learning vision for the global university system which will profoundly impact opportunities for learners, employers and communities.

In partnership with the Chancellor and his leadership team build a strategic plan, operational initiatives and program activities for the unit that align with the Office of the Chancellor's and the University's mission and vision and remain on course to accomplish short, medium and long term goals.
Lead strategic planning and goal setting efforts within Educational Innovation including tracking goals to ensure annual and long terms goals are successfully met.
Collaborates with college partners and regional campus deans to develop, test and scale new programs consistent with the needs and opportunities of our learners and communities.
Broadens and deepens corporate learning and employer partnerships to realize greater value for both the university and the employer partners.
Activates and scales innovation across the system, including the creation and scaling of global system mobility programs across the colleges.
Leads dedicated teams to build a portfolio of high priority experiments which can be accelerators for scale.
Provides geographic-specific leadership and presence throughout the global university system, as warranted, and consistent with strategic initiatives.
Advance and align the agenda of the Chancellor with leadership, key stakeholders and partners.


Program Design & Acceleration

The senior vice chancellor’s functional portfolio and organization includes oversight of Center for the Advancement of Teaching & Learning through Research, University Honors Programs, Undergraduate Research, Fellowships and Scholarships, Employer Engagement, Career Design, the Global Experiential Office, Peer Tutoring, and Pre-Health. Together with the existing functional unit leads, the senior vice chancellor leads the university's acceleration efforts to guide, expand and support the full integration of experiential learning across the curriculum and co-curriculum ensuring that our portfolio of programming remains differentiated and relevant. Specifically, she/he:
Partners with faculty leaders and the college and regional campus deans to identify, develop, and design regional opportunities.
Works closely with various university stakeholders who are leading innovation and delivery of experiential learning technologies, methods, and service strategies (e.g., online learning, co-op optimization, the experiential network, emerging “experiential learning as a service” initiatives, etc.)
Partners with the Educational Innovation department heads and their teams to achieve their ambitious learner experience goals and position those teams for scale and continued success.
In collaboration with, and/or in service of, enterprise partners, leads the development of new models of embedded workplace learning, curating a portfolio of innovative models, testing them across contexts, and effectively scaling successful experiments more broadly.
Working in collaboration with CATLR and Analytics & Decision Support teams, develops and leads strategies for systematically capturing and harnessing learning data to support learners, faculty, curriculum developers, and administrators, advancing a culture of data-driven decision making at all levels around learning efficacy, learner satisfaction, and implementation of continuous improvement of learning designs and outcomes.
