Position Overview

The Education Program Specialist will manage the office’s programming services, transitional programs and participate in educational outreach, consultative services, marketing activities, website maintenance, and social media.

Outreach activities include development of social media and other communication materials, participation in programs coordinated by Student Money Management Services and providing program information during orientation. Participate in outreach activities to connect both prospective and current students to educational opportunities coordinated by Student Money Management Service and other campus units.

The Education Program Specialist must have strong communication skills and computer skills. Performs a variety of program management and coordination tasks that are non-routine and non-repetitive in nature.

Student Money Management Services is a division within Student Affairs. This position reports to the Director for Student Money Management Services.

Job Description

40% - Provide programmatic support for all financial literacy programs. Assist with the development of programs designed to introduce students to financial resources, opportunities for campus involvement, and experiential learning certifications and activities at the University of Kansas. Assist the Director with logistical needs for programs. Participate in the selection and training process for SMMS Peer Educators. Facilitate this activity by providing scheduling support and assisting with the preparation of materials.

20% - The SMMs Education Program Specialist assist in overseeing the office’s operational services - database management, student employment, assessment, and research. Serves as the office’s representative. Provides support in all facets of the office’s operations and services. Use of independent judgment and initiative required.

20% - Assist with the targeted development of communication materials for Student Money Management Services. Work with Peer Educators to identify topics of interest for website, social media, and print development. Draft content for communication projects. Work with Peer Educators to identify communication strategies to engage current KU students, including opportunities for collaborative partnerships with faculty, staff and student organizations.

10% - Participate in outreach activities for the Student Money Management, including information fairs by the Office of Admissions, the orientation information fair and related programs and working with the First-year Experience program and our campus partners.

10% - Assist Director with data collection and assessment analysis for Student Money Management Services and all other duties assigned.

Coaching Sessions
Manages offices confidential consultative services.
Coordinates team support of coaching sessions.
Interviews students referred or requesting personal financial counseling or planning to evaluate situations.
Ensures requests for coaching sessions placed by students through the loan programs application systems are scheduled within five business days with the assistance of the administrative services team.
Oversees evaluation system of coaching sessions with the Director.
Makes recommendations for changes in program, policies, and procedures.
Outreach Programming
Develops and maintains training calendars throughout each semester.
Serves as primary office representative for receipt and approval of outreach programming requests.
Conducts group presentations designed to educate participants on a variety of personal financial and money management topics.
Conducts personal financial management educational programs to student organizations, residence halls and classes.
Coordinates team support of outreach programming.
Assists in the development of collaborative outreach activities and programming with internal and external partners.
Peer Mentors-Programming
Assist in Managing the Peer Mentoring Program.
Hires, trains, and supervises peer mentors with the assistance of the Director.
Conducts performance evaluations on Peer mentors once a semester.
Plans and performs end-of-service recognition events for Peer Educators.
Program Stats
Collects and tracks usage data for program areas of oversight continuously throughout each semester.
Enters usage statistics into internal reporting system within five business days at the end of each semester.
Assists Director with the preparation of usage statistics and reporting requirements.
Prepares annual usage report for program areas of oversight for office leadership team.
Develops training criteria and ensures completion of all training requirements for full time and student positions.
Works with Director to coordinator and ensure adequate staffing is maintained in the front.
Works with Director to coordinator and ensure training completion by Peer Educators.
Assists Director with the management of the peer mentor program.
Serves as primary liaison with web designer.
Reviews SMMS website on a weekly basis to ensure content is current.
Identifies articles for posting to the office’s website on a weekly basis.
Plans and implements quarterly and annual reviews of website content with the assistance of the leadership team.
