Summary

Medical Director, Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) Intensive Care Unit at Texas Children's Hospital (TCH)

Background:
The new TCH ACHD Unit will be opening in late 2020. This is a one-of-a-kind unit where some of the most complex and critically ill adolescents and adults with heart disease will be cared for as in-patients and out-patients. The Unit will include 16 acuity-adaptable beds, that are all ICU capable, as well as ambulatory and investigative services.

The new ICU will be separately staffed around the clock, with intensive care physicians as well as mid-level providers and Fellows. These uniquely trained individuals will specialize in the care of critically ill adults with heart disease, and therefore have a skillset that is in general new to TCH and Critical Care.

The skills required for this position include substantial experience in the care of critically ill adults and children with heart disease in top tier institutions. The individual should possess board certification or equivalent training and certification in both Adult and Pediatric Critical Care and/or Anesthesiology, as well as training in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics.

Job Duties

The ACHD ICU Medical Director will have primary responsibility for the development of the clinical ACHD ICU service. He/she will work with Heart Center and ACHD leadership to launch a new, world-class ACHD Unit at Texas Children's Hospital.

The ACHD ICU medical director will be directly responsible for the day to day operations in the new unit, and this will include clinical operations, quality and safety initiatives, data collection and audit, hiring of team members and training and mentorship of learners in the ICU environment.

The Medical Director will also oversee all training and educational initiatives, including the introduction of new devices and innovative therapies to this patient population.
