Job Description

Post-Doctoral Fellow - Computational Biophysics - REQ # 1917495

Description:

Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking a driven and innovative Post-Doctoral Fellow – Computational Biophysics to join our Biotherapeutics Discovery department located at our Ridgefield, CT facility.

As a Post-Doctoral Fellow, you will be a primary driver of fundamental research and technology innovation in the area of Immune-informatics and advance our understanding of molecular origins of pre-clinical and clinical immunogenicity observed in case of biotherapeutic drug products. In particular, we are looking for a creative computational scientist to enable development of computational workflows and tools to predict potential immune epitopes, explore mechanism of coupling between immunogenicity and protein aggregation; and how these relates to different biologic formats (Fabs, IgG, scFv and multi-specifics). The ideal candidate for this position will be an independently driven computational biophysicist / immunologist who can apply molecular modeling and data analytics approaches to simultaneously optimize immune recognition, antibody developability, safety, and PK/PD in a synergistic manner. The Post-Doctoral Fellow will be expected to initiate and publish research findings to internal and external scientific community.

As an employee of Boehringer Ingelheim, you will actively contribute to the discovery, development and delivery of our products to our patients and customers. Our global presence provides opportunity for all employees to collaborate internationally, offering visibility and opportunity to directly contribute to the companies' success. We realize that our strength and competitive advantage lie with our people. We support our employees in a number of ways to foster a healthy working environment, meaningful work, diversity and inclusion, mobility, networking and work-life balance. Our competitive compensation and benefit programs reflect Boehringer Ingelheim's high regard for our employees.

Duties & Responsibilities:

•Understand fundamental relationships between molecular sequences & structures and pre-clinical / clinical immunogenicity using computational modeling and data analyses. Develop novel algorithms to assess immunogenicity risks associated with biotherapeutic candidates.
•Develop next generation tools to predict T- and B-cell Immune epitopes and forecast immunogenicity of antibody based drug candidates and also for epitope/paratope mapping in early drug discovery.
•Deepen mechanistic understanding of how human immune system interacts with protein aggregates.
•Implement sequence as well as structure-based strategies to optimize monoclonal, bispecific and multi-specific antibody formats and contribute to discovery processes.
•Work with multi-disciplinary groups of experimentalists, including those involved in protein engineering, PK/PD and safety groups
• Proficiently execute assigned tasks in bioinformatics, homology-based antibody modeling, molecular simulations and machine learning/Artificial intelligence.
•Influence external environment with high profile publication and conference presentations
•Comply all applicable regulations, performing all work in a safe manner; maintain proper records in accordance with SOP’s and policies.
•Contribute towards mentoring colleagues
•Other tasks assigned by the mentor time to time

Desired Experience, Skills and Abilities:

•Original thinking, high level of motivation, and ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
•Demonstrated creativity and initiative in driving cutting edge research and good publication record
•Demonstrated knowledge of computational immunology and immune informatics and Antibody/Protein Engineering
•Hands-on experience with computer programming, molecular modeling, simulations and data analyses via machine learning
•Ability to collaborate with experimentalists and colleagues interested in molecular biophysics
•Exceptional written and oral communication skills

Requirements:

•PhD degree in Computational Immunology / vaccinology or computational biophysics, with no more than 1 years of postdoctoral experience
•Strong computational programming skills and familiarity with scientific computing and at least one modern computer programming language such as Python, Perl or C.
•Familiarity with protein sequence, structure--function analyses and molecular modeling & simulations software such as MOE, Schrodinger, NAMD, Gromacs.
•Strong skills in data analyses, machine learning and AI.
•Strategic research planning ability and excellent written and oral presentation skills

Eligibility Requirements:
•Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
•Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)
•Must be 18 years of age or older
