Notice of Provisional Opportunity

Range: 14 - Salary: $40,079.44-$56,215.45

There is a provisional promotional opportunity available in the title of Principal Library Assistant in the Lending Services Department of the Library. Under the direction of a Librarian or other supervisor does library functions directly related to the acquisition, organization, maintenance and distribution of library materials and supervises the work of student assistants and other employees of varied grades.

The work schedule for this position is Sunday through Thursday, 11:00 am – 7:00 pm

Duties and Responsibilities:


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Primary desk contact; assists is checking in and out of library materials, handles cash transactions, phone coverage and customer service skills
Supervises, trains, coordinates schedules and oversees student assistants
Sunday responsibilities included opening the Library
Keeps accurate and updated files including financial statistics
Prepares/disseminates monthly reports using excel for financial and collections figures
Monitors and serves as a primary contact for public copy/scan machine for reporting maintenance issues
Uses the workflow of materials circulation, the Library of Congress classification system and related policies and procedures in the application of assigned duties
Performs other related duties as assigned that are appropriate for the position
Qualifications:
This position in a busy academic library requires the selected candidate to possess strong interpersonal skills, excellent customer service and communication skills, computer proficiency in MS Office and an ability to work in a team-based environment. Some light lifting is involved.

This provisional promotional opportunity is open to employees in the competitive division who have an aggregate of one year of continuous permanent service as of the closing date in any competitive tile and meet the requirements below:

Experience: Requires two years of library work, one year of which will have included the performance of a specialized phase of library procedures.
Applicants may substitute one (1) year of Library related courses in an accredited college for one (1) year of basic experience.


NOTE: When announced by the NJ Civil Service Commission, the appointee will be required to file for, take and pass the examination for this title. This exam, as determined by the NJCSC may be written or E&E (a ranking based on experience and education listed on the application).
