Position Summary
The Department of Political Science in the College of Arts and Sciences at North Central College seeks candidates for a tenure-track position in political science with emphasis in public law, judicial politics, law and society, or comparative law to begin Fall 2020. Ph.D. must be in hand by August 1, 2020. Our department is committed to preparing students to contribute meaningfully to a democracy, while at the same time understanding the nuance of political equality and civic participation. We value diversity and are committed to social justice, equity, and inclusiveness. Experience working with historically marginalized and underserved communities will be weighed in a candidate’s favor.

Applicants should have teaching experience and show potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching and scholarship. In addition to teaching courses in law (Introduction to Law, Constitutional Law, Civil Rights and Liberties), a candidate should be prepared to teach the introductory course in American government and contribute to the department’s methodology courses. The department expects that the successful candidate will also develop courses in their areas of expertise. There will be additional opportunities for the successful candidate to contribute to North Central’s tradition of interdisciplinary learning.

Founded in 1861, North Central College is a selective, comprehensive liberal arts institution of about 3000 students, located 28 miles west of Chicago in Naperville. The College is in a period of growth with the addition of a $60 million Science Center opened in March 2017. The college is within walking distance of the Naperville Metra station and is next to downtown Naperville.
