Job Description

The Hubbard lab (https://www.ualberta.ca/pharmacology/people/faculty/hubbard-detail) is seeking to fill 1-2 postdoctoral fellow positions in the areas of gene editing, synthetic biology, and xenobiology. Projects will explore the use of synthetic nucleic acids in a wide variety of contexts (both as therapeutics and as tools) and expand upon our previously published work (Cromwell et al., Nature Communications, 2018). Funding has been secured for 3 years but applicants will be encouraged to apply for additional sources of funding and support, such as postdoctoral fellowships.

Successful applicants will hold a PhD in biochemistry/molecular biology (or equivalent), demonstrate a high degree of expertise in general aspects of molecular biology (cloning, PCR/qPCR, western blot, delivery vectors, etc.), have a proven record of research productivity, and be self-motivated. Depending on the project selected, familiarity with mammalian tissue culture or microbial culture will be necessary. Previous experience with gene editing using CRISPR/Cas9 in either mammalian cells or microbial cells, and/or xenobiology is also an asset for several projects.

The University of Alberta is ranked among the top 4 universities in Canada and in the top 100 worldwide. The University is located in Edmonton, the capital of Alberta, which is a large, vibrant and multicultural city.

Interested applicants should email Dr. Hubbard (bphubbar@ualberta.ca) with: a) CV, b) representative first-author publication, c) statement of research interests and career goals, and d) names and contact details of three references

Closing Date: The position is available immediately and will remain open until filled.
We thank all applicants for their interest. However, only individuals selected for an interview will be contacted.
