Job Description

Summary of Responsibilities:

a. Ensuring laboratory compliance with applicable regulations and standards.

b. Developing and maintaining procedures and policies for clinical chemistry testing including: specimen collection and transport, assay performance and clinical utility.

c. Aiding administrative staff in development of budgets including analyzers, reagents and staffing needing to run the chemistry laboratory.

d. Working with other clinical staff as appropriate to develop clinical algorithms for testing.

e. Serving as a resource for physicians, nursing staff and pharmacy regarding matters of patient care and utilization of chemistry lab testing services. Designing test menus to optimize support of patient needs with respect to the clinical differential diagnosis.

f. Evaluating test methodologies and clinical utility to determine optimal test systems and assays for utilization in patient care.

g. Providing education and training for clinical staff including physicians, nurses, and pharmacists as it pertains to test selection and sample acquisition and submission.

h. Conducting rounds in patient care areas and consulting with clinicians.

i. Designing, organizing and conducting an active research program and attract external funding to support the projects. Exercise reasonable options to ensure proper content of study and safety of human subjects, if any.

j. Assisting Pathology Administration with technical recommendations and equipment evaluation that will enhance the overall service quality of the Clinical Chemistry Sections.

k. Responsible for informing of any deficiencies, conditions or events that may significantly affect the program, study or departmental operations.

l. Ensuring compliance with all regulatory (CMS/CLIA) and accrediting agencies (CAP) in the performance of clinical testing.

Qualifications:

1. Ph.D. degree and fellowship in a CoMACC certified clinical chemistry fellowship program

2. Experience in directing or helping to direct clinical laboratories that provide services in clinical chemistry

3. Certification or eligible for certification by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry and or National Registry of Clinical Chemists is required.

4. High level of organizational and communication skills.
