Job Description
The Russ College of Engineering and Technology’s Avionics Engineering Center at Ohio University invites applications for the position of Research Engineer, Navigation. The Research Engineer, Navigation provides research, technical, engineering, and programming support to assist in the investigation, development, testing and evaluation of various electronic positioning, navigation and timing systems.
Responsibilities include:
1. Researches technical, engineering, and scientific literature and data in support of developing, testing, and evaluating electronic positioning and navigation systems;
2. Applies theoretical knowledge of principles, concepts, practices and procedures to solve complex technical problems, design experimental tests, identify unique requirements stemming from the use of existing and emerging navigation system architectures, and address complex functional, performance and operational issues;
3. Assists with the planning and conducting of scientific experiments and field/flight tests, analysis and interpretation of the resulting data against performance requirements, and recording of results to provide conclusive data for research projects;
4. Assists with the preparation of research reports, manuscripts for conference and journal papers, technical papers/essays, technical and programmatic status reports and briefings, and seminar material.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Bachelor of Science degree from an ABET accredited college or university in Electrical Engineering or related field.
2. At least three years of experience in electronic navigation engineering/research.
3. Knowledge and expertise in principles, concepts, practices and evaluation methodologies in the electronic navigation field, including ground-based and satellite-based navigation and landing systems.
4. Ability to plan steps for, and carry out, multiphase projects and to modify techniques to solve a wide range of problems.
5. Ability to interact with personnel at all levels and integrate problem correction into ongoing work without loss of efficiency.

Preferred Qualifications
1. Master of Science degree from an ABET accredited college or university in Electrical Engineering or related field.
2. Experience with ILS, DME, VOR and/or TACAN ground equipment and performing site surveys.
3. Industry experience with navigation sensor development, integration and systems engineering.
4. C/C++, MATLAB® and Simulink® experience.
5. Experience with high-accuracy positioning, navigation and timing system development and testing (e.g., RTK GNSS).
6. Electromagnetic, propagation and antenna modeling/simulation experience related to electronic navigation systems.
