Position Summary

Under direction of the Director of CSN Libraries and in coordination with the faculty librarians, CSN Libraries seeks to hire a full-time Instruction and Reference Librarian beginning July 1, 2019, to provide information literacy instruction, create and maintain engaging online learning content, provide reference services and collection development duties in a culturally diverse and busy campus environment. The librarian provides student-centered research assistance to users; works collaboratively with faculty to integrate information competency skills into courses; participates in the assessment of library services that positively impact student learning and success and leads collection development for several disciplines. This is a position at our Charleston Campus Library. The Charleston Campus Library sees thousands of students daily, and many of them require research and technology assistance during extensive service hours, until 10:30 four days per week. This position is part of an active and dynamic library instruction program that creates and provides engaging online learning content, and partners with faculty to support learning outcomes across disciplines. This librarian will have the opportunity to work and collaborate with all the instruction librarians in a team-based environment in an effort to continually assess and improve instructional activities. The librarian also acts as acquisitions contact for several content areas. Mentorship, training and other professional development opportunities are available and encouraged.

Required Qualifications

• Masters of Library Science or Master of Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited program, from a regionally accredited college or university.
• Experience providing reference and instruction in a library setting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with current information literacy theory, practice and assessment.
• Demonstrated interest in practicing assessment techniques and utilizing assessments to improve library services.
• Demonstrated interest in learning and using emerging technologies to improve library services and instruction, including the ability to create tutorials and other learning objects.
• Demonstrated cross-cultural competence and pedagogical commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
• Demonstrable enthusiasm for teaching and working with students.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently or as part of teams.
• Related experience in an academic library.
• Demonstrated collaborative skills.

Starting Salary Range

This is a Tenure Track position. Initial salary placement is based on educational level and total years of full-time equivalent teaching experience. A maximum of 10 years of experience will be considered for initial salary placement purposes.
