Job Description

The Division of Teacher Education and Human Development (TEHD) in the College of Education at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor in K-12 Computer Science Education beginning in the fall of 2019. The teaching load is 2+3 (or equivalent) semester-based courses related to K-12 computer science education. Courses to be developed and taught include both an Elementary and Secondary methods of teaching computer science course with an emphasis on the use of computers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) as a means to careers including manufacturing. Other responsibilities include engaging in an ongoing, STEM focused research program that results in publications and funded grants; and contributing to professional, university, and community service and outreach. This position is part of a multi-year commitment to establish UNR as an international leader in Advanced Manufacturing Research. The availability of this position is contingent on available funding.

Required Qualifications

An earned doctorate by August of 2019 in an educational field directly related to computer science education.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants with supporting expertise or experience in one or more of the following areas:

Three years teaching or equivalent experience in computer science education.
​Experience working with teacher preparation in K-12 settings.
STEM grant acquisition.

Department Information

The Division of Teacher Education and Human Development (TEHD) is one of two units in the College of Education. It provides initial teacher preparation, delivers masters programs, and participates in the college’s doctoral program. TEHD is comprised of approximately 18 tenure track faculty and includes programs in Elementary Education and Secondary Education. These programs are tasked with all aspects of the preparation of teachers, including newly instituted state policies stipulating the delivery of computer science related instruction throughout the K-12 curriculum.
