Position Summary and Responsibilities This position is for the Assistant Teacher in the toddler programs at the Infant Toddler Center (ITC) and Wimpfheimer Nursery School (WNS). It is a two-year cycle. The individual in this position will be the Assistant Teacher in the ITC's toddler program for one school year, and then move with the children to Wimpfheimer's 2s3s program the following year. This position reports to the Site Director at ITC or the Director of Wimpfheimer.

The Infant Toddler Center and Wimpfheimer Nursery School, located on the Vassar College campus, are laboratory early childhood settings which serve as a teacher training and research facility, and welcome Vassar and community families.

This Assistant Teacher position will teach in one of these toddler classrooms each year. S/he will be a member of the teaching team in the toddler program. This individual provides nurturing and responsive caregiving and engages in consistent and ongoing interaction and developmentally appropriate practices with toddlers throughout the day. Responsibilities include implementing innovative curriculum development, providing and modeling positive discipline practices in classroom management, interacting with and supporting parents, families, supervising college work study student, writing parent newsletters, assisting researchers working with children, and caring for the general classroom and school environment as well as other duties as assigned by the Site Director (ITC) or the Director and/or Assistant Director (WNS).

Work Schedule:
8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. or 9:15 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.; Monday through Friday (ITC).
7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (WNS).
Flexibility is required as hours may occasionally need to be adjusted or modified due to staffing or programming needs.

Qualifications Qualifications include a minimum of Associate's Degree in Childhood Education or related field. Experience in a lab school setting preferred. Flexibility, creativity, effective communication skills, professionalism and strong teamwork skills are required. Punctuality and consistency in attendance is critical to maintaining a sense of comfort, reliability and structure for the children in our care. Must successfully complete all requirements of the Office of Children and Family Services.
