The School of Media Studies at The New School invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty appointment in the Media Studies Program beginning on July 1, 2019.

We are seeking a promising scholar with expertise in media theory, history, and criticism, with an emphasis on digital and emerging media. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong potential for high standards of accomplishment in scholarly research and/or creative practice, teaching, and service.

The teaching course load is five graduate/undergraduate courses per year or its equivalent, plus advising students and supervising theses. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in the core areas of the graduate and undergraduate programs including introductory media theory, and develop new courses within the media studies graduate and undergraduate curricula. The candidate should also demonstrate an interest and aptitude for curriculum development and rotational faculty leadership roles.

The School of Media Studies at The New School has been defining the field of media studies for more than four decades and providing a broad curriculum that combines theory and practice across graduate degrees in Media Studies and Media Management, undergraduate and graduate certificates, and the undergraduate media curriculum. Seminar courses focus on diverse critical, historical, analytic, and creative methods of investigation, while production courses focus on multiple media forms: cinematic, digital, immersive, sound, and mobile. Minimum Qualifications:

We are seeking applicants with a potential to build an outstanding record of scholarly research and/or creative practice, publications, contributions to discussions in the field of media studies, and an aptitude for innovation.

• A terminal degree in a relevant field or an advanced degree with a substantial record of scholarly research/creative practice and/or publications is required.
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the university level.
• Experience with curriculum development and oversight is desirable.
• Experience mentoring students.
• Capacity to work well with people from diverse cultural backgrounds and levels of professional experience.
• Commitment to collaborating across the University and with external partners.
