Job Description

Two NIH funded postdoctoral associate positions are immediately available in research related with multiple sclerosis at the laboratory of Dr. Wensheng Lin in the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities Campus. A major focus of the laboratory is to explore the mechanisms responsible for demyelination and neurodegeneration in multiple sclerosis and to develop therapeutic strategies that promote the survival of oligodendrocytes and neurons in this disease. We generate sophisticated mouse models that allow for inactivation or activation of genes of interest specifically in oligodendrocytes or neurons using innovative genetic approaches, and then exploit these mouse models to understand the roles of these genes in oligodendrocytes or neurons in models of multiple sclerosis and their underlying mechanisms. The successful candidates must be self-motivated scientists and have a PhD degree in the areas of neuroscience, molecular biology, or immunology. Basic skills in molecular biology, cell culture, and immunohistochemistry are required. Experience in neurodegenerative diseases, myelin disorders, or experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis is a plus. Please send application with CV, publication list and contact information of three references to: Wensheng Lin, Institute for Translational Neuroscience, University of Minnesota, 2101 6th Street SE, WMBB 4-140, Minneapolis, MN 55455, or by email: Applications will be accepted until the positions are filled.
