The Teaching Innovation Team, a part of the Division of Online and Strategic Learning at Ball State University, provides best practices, instructional development, and consultation in content development and innovative learning experiences. We aim to understand the factors that contribute to learner success and optimize for a range of metrics. We are seeking a dynamic, creative, and team-oriented Instructional Consultant who can leverage research-based best practices and data to inform programming and assessment.

The Instructional Consultant is a full-time position focused on championing instructional support for courses and programs. This individual works within a team of consultants who continuously drive and improve face-to-face, online, and hybrid pedagogy and andragogy through research, feedback, and tool testing and experimentation. The Instructional Consultant contributes to our internal community of inquiry by maintaining and sharing contemporary knowledge on teaching and learning, instructional technologies, and faculty development. The Instructional Consultant upholds a positive spirit of teamwork.

Minimum Education:

Master’s degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field by date of employment.

Preferred Education:

Additional certification/relevant training

Minimum Experience:

  • Three years of professional experience in designing university-level courses
  • Experience with a learning management system (LMS)
  • Experience evaluating effectiveness in reaching course/program objectives
  • Professional experience leveraging data and writing reports which work to improve learning experiences
  • Experience consulting with a variety of clients

Preferred Experience:

5+ years professional experience in designing university-level courses
  • Experience with the Canvas learning management system (LMS)
  • Subject matter expertise in instructional design, active learning techniques, assessment strategies, course support, teaching and learning, and/or teaching with technolog
  • Business acumen for consulting
  • Experience synthesizing information from various sources and conducting experimental research
  • Experience teaching adult learners

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide engaging and meaningful consultation and support on the course, program, and campus-wide levels in areas of teaching and learning, including but not limited to online, face-to-face, and hybrid courses.
  • Meaningfully collaborate as a cross-functional team member in inter and intra-departmental conversations pertinent to unit and university-wide strategic goals and objectives.
  • Design and deliver dynamic instructional development opportunities and resources which improve teaching and learning.
  • Regularly explore, test, and assess innovative solutions, including emerging technologies, and provide guidance for implementation.
  • Contribute to additional duties and projects based on existing and emerging areas of expertise.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
