Ball State University welcomes applications for a 2nd shift Electronic Mechanic position.

Job Function:

Under supervision, perform work in electronics and instrument repair complying with appropriate regulations and codes.

Minimum Education:

1.High School graduate or equivalent (GED).

Preferred Education:

1.Vocational School Training.

Minimum Experience:

1.Successful completion of an apprenticeship program in Electronics as approved by the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training or five (5) years of experience in the electronics trade, or equivalent combination of five (5) years education and experience from which comparable job knowledge can be acquired as determined by Ball State University.
2.Must be able to read and comprehend all specified policies and procedures for safety, hazardous materials information, and university policies, procedures, and communications, and to perform mathematical calculations.
3.Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License and be insurable under the university’s auto fleet policy.
4.Must be able to perform all mental and physical requirements as outlined in each job duty.
5.You must be 18 years or older.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Install, inspect, troubleshoot, adjust, repair, transport, and maintain electronic equipment as required.
  • Install, diagnose, repair, maintain, and operate audio, sound, public address, emergency, and disaster announciator systems, as required.
  • Install, diagnose, repair, and maintain video systems, card readers, security alarms, CCTV, HDMI, VGA, and components. Install, diagnose, repair, and maintain cabling and splicing for fire alarm, projectors, metering and BMS systems as required.
  • Perform appropriate electronic tests and measurements and evaluate results as components and systems required for proper operation.
  • Install, connect, repair, and maintain standard and emergency university signal systems as required.
  • Select materials and design circuits to be used in construction and modification of university electronic equipment as required.
  • Evaluate the need for and recommend the replacement and acquisition of electronic equipment and instruments.
  • Provide electronic equipment and support for events, structures, and both scheduled and unscheduled power interruptions as required.
  • Read and comprehend blueprints, drawings, diagrams, and sketches to insure proper specifications are followed.
  • Clean and maintain all department equipment and tools; report all missing equipment or tools to the supervisor.
  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of various job chemicals, environmental concerns, applicable codes, and new technology.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
