Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Director, Employee Relations and Organizational Development, the Employee Relations Partner position will conduct interviews/investigations independently and coordinate the necessary steps to for communication and if needed, documentation has been handled properly. Upon request, communicate with colleges/divisions/departments, management/staff members by providing guidance and appropriate next steps in a collegial and professional manner. Ensure that the investigations or allegations of unprofessional conduct and violations of the University policies are reviewed in a timely manner. Also, involvement with assisting with training for management/employees to ensure that our processes are being adhered to.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Conduct investigations involving allegations of misconduct and violations of university policy for staff positions primarily. Conducts the necessary interviews, gathers evidence, and provides investigatory information for discussion and evaluation as necessary. Understands and interprets policies, procedures and drafts written documentation, summarizing investigative findings, analysis of the evidence, and providing solid recommendations.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Employee Relations, the AA/EEO Officer, and/or the VP of Human Resources in developing as well as coordinating, guiding, and implementing training and professional development regarding Employee Relations topics of interest that need evaluating and improvements across the campus. Assist with creating and presenting the campus with training sessions to familiarize the audience with university policies, procedures, guidelines, and appropriate practices.
  • Maintain and track accurate, confidential case records in the appropriate systems/processes. Prepare data and statistical analysis reports of various activities and projects. Must be a detailed and excellent keeper of records and summarize meeting notes.
  • Independently cultivate a positive rapport with staff and faculty in various departments to ensure that we are working together collegially by guiding the administrators in conducting investigations when necessary. Counsel and coach managers and administrators on various challenging issues and promote an engaged and positive culture.
  • When needed represent the Human Resources Division at meetings which could include discussions with the appropriate internal departments, and legal counsel, and assist with the steps and processes for hearings and mediations.
  • Must be comfortable with presenting information to various levels of leadership/employees and when necessary, individuals outside the organization professionally and comfortable manner.
  • Gather information for projects/assignments across Employee Relations which could include: Organizational Development, AA-EEO, and other needed areas. Reviewing/running of reports related to Employee Relations matters. Preparation for meetings, and information to Director/Senior Leaders. Other administrative duties may include creating forms and coordinating with the appropriate individuals for website updates for the section.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned/needed for the betterment of the section and division.


Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in a related field of Human Resources, Business, or similar background with a minimum of two - three years of related experience in human resources department or comparable field.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited college or university with four-six years of experience, SHRM-CP Certification and/or experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Excellent writing and research skills and the ability to generate concise, logical and grammatically correct analytical reports that convey complex and sensitive issues.

Ability to read and interpret complex documents such as court opinions, laws, and federal regulations to evaluate their impact on university policies and procedures. Working knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations.

Ability to maintain effective working relationships with administrators, staff, faculty, and community partners.

Demonstrated assessment, investigation, and resolution of concerns and complaints including conflict resolution, problem-solving techniques, compliant screening, interviewing, consultation and advise, and conducting investigation.

The ability to exercise independent judgment, to assess and negotiate complex, highly sensitive situations, including the ability to maintain confidentiality, to be discreet and maintain neutrality in the face of indifference or hostility.

Demonstrated skill and sensitivity in interacting with various ethnic, social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds to identify investigate and facilitate problem resolution.

Must be committed to principles of due process, fairness, and respect.

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases

Detail-oriented with strong organizational, prioritization and multi-tasking skills

Some knowledge regarding Employee Relations and experience in this field

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (work outside of the normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position)

Pay Grade: 21

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
