The Augusta University School of Public Health was established in 2023 to address Georgia's distinct public health challenges through exceptional education, innovative research, and collaborative community engagement. We are leveraging the strengths of Georgia's only public academic medical center, combining public health expertise with clinical knowledge to train future public health leaders. Our school is comprised of three academic departments: Biostatistics, Epidemiology & Data Science, Community & Behavioral Health Sciences, and Health Management, Economics & Policy. We offer a variety of degree programs, from specialized master's options to doctoral programs that create the next generation of public health researchers. Our research mission is critical to our long-term impact; we strongly emphasize scholarly productivity through peer-reviewed publications, scientific presentations, and grant-funded projects. Annually, we attract more than $6M in extramural funding.

Job Summary

This position provides coordination and oversight of SPH programs and activities related to student recruitment, engagement, persistence, academic success, and long-term connection to the school (i.e., alumni engagement).

Responsibilities

The duties include, but are not limited to:

Student Recruitment: Develop and produce recruitment materials in collaboration with education program directors, program coordinators, and SPH Director of Marketing. Identify recruitment opportunities and arrange recruitment event(s) for the school's programs. Attend recruitment events organized by other AU offices, including The Graduate School and AU Admissions Office. Create and maintain a system for tracking and engaging potential applicants to answer questions and enhance the rate of conversion from 'interested' to "applicant
  • to "enrolled student.

    Student Engagement and Success: Develop and produce student orientation in collaboration with education program directors and coordinators. Serve as a first line of contact for students who have questions or concerns that may affect engagement. persistence, and academic progress. Create and maintain a system for tracking and "touching" all SPH students at least once per semester to conduct wellness checks, connect students with SPH and AU services, review course map and registration plans, and answer any student questions regarding their program of study. Create and manage monthly student activities, including community-engaged activities, to engage students socially and create community among SPH students.

    Student Internship Coordination: In collaboration with the (faculty) internship advisor and the MPH program director, oversee and manage the MPH internship program. Create and maintain a system for tracking and "touching" all active SPH internship sites at least once per year to answer questions and ensure ongoing preceptor satisfaction. In collaboration with the internship advisor and MPH program director, identify prospective (new) host sites for MPH internships, meet with potential preceptors to outline the purpose of the internship program and answer questions, and prepare and execute internship site agreements. Prepare PowerPoint materials, learning materials, and step by step guides for students who are doing internships. Create and maintain a system for connecting MPH students with appropriate internship experiences. This may involve brief surveys of (1) students to identify interests and assess skills; and (2) preceptors to identify project needs.

    Student Academic Advising/Support: In collaboration with the Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, develop a student record system to track individualized academic and career advising. In collaboration with the (faculty) capstone advisor and the MPH program director, develop and maintain a system to help MPH students identify appropriate faculty advisors for their capstone projects. In collaboration with the (faculty) capstone advisor, create a system for tracking and "touching" students at multiple time points during their capstone experience to answer questions and ensure adequate progress. Coordinate capstone presentation events to provide an opportunity for MPH students to share their capstone work. In collaboration with the SPH Assessment/Accreditation Coordinator, collect data and document advising related activities (for CEPH accreditation). Leverage AU's Handshake Platform to collect employment opportunities and connect MPH students with appropriate opportunities. Meet with students during their second year to discuss career plans, connect students with campus resources related to job readiness, and offer connections with employment opportunities. Receive ongoing advising related training via CEPH and AU webinars and workshops and disseminating the information to students.

    Alumni Tracking and Engagement: Develop and implement Alumni Engagement Strategy to increase the number of alumni who volunteer in academic programs and alumni donors. Develop, populate, and maintain an alumnus tracking system for all SPH educational programs. Facilitate MPH program's social media page at Linkedln, or other outlets, to stay engaged with the MPH alumni. Establish and maintain strong and mutually beneficial relationships with Alumni and external contacts. Oversee that development and conduct of alumni surveys for all programs in the school.

    Required Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in education or related fields with 5+ years of student academic advising experience.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Master's degree in education or related fields with student academic advising experience Is highly desired.

    Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases. Comprehension of academic guidelines and policies.

    SKILLS

    Excellent customer service, multi-tasking, organizational, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills.

    ABILITIES

    Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines despite often interruptions, maintain confidentiality, and keep accurate records. Must be highly self-motivated, able to work both independently and as part of a team, take initiative, and collaborate effectively with various internal and external constituents. Must support the leadership and maintain a positive and cooperative team-orientated work environment.

    Shift/Salary/Benefits

    Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).

    Salary: $38,913-$52,533 annually.

    Pay Grade: 15

    Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
